The Client

ZwillGen is a boutique law firm that investigates, litigates, and counsels some of the biggest names in technology on pressing issues such as cybercrime, information security, privacy, and internet gambling.

Since its founding in 2010, ZwillGen’s lawyers have been ranked and recognized in Chambers USA for their focus on Privacy and Data Security.

The Challenge

ZwillGen has offices in Washington D.C., New York, San Francisco, and Chicago, with deep experience serving as federal prosecutors, in-house lawyers, federal and state regulators, and big-firm counsel.

To match their expertise, ZwillGen needed a broad and affordable professional liability insurance policy to protect against malpractice claims. They also needed more transparency from their commercial insurance broker.

The Journey

Wanted: more horsepower behind current policies

Before Embroker, ZwillGen kept a long-standing relationship with their previous broker. Initially, the law firm was pleased with the service, but over time it felt like the insurance policies weren’t keeping up with ZwillGen’s growth and sophistication. The previous broker couldn’t provide enough clarity on complex products (i.e., Cyber Insurance), and was rarely proactive on recommendations to improve coverage.

ZwillGen leveraged our expertise to market their policies

We sent a cold email to ZwillGen during its renewal process to chat about a modern way to insure their firm. Time was limited — 26 days from the renewal date — so we got to work quickly. ZwillGen provided us with copies of their policies so we could provide a holistic review of their insurance.

The review found opportunities to improve coverage, address appropriate limits of insurance, and lower costs. In the best interest of their firm, ZwillGen removed their former broker and signed a Broker of Record letter with us.

We then reviewed their application, confirmed the policy improvement strategy, then shopped the application to multiple carriers.

The Results

ZwillGen reduced their premium by $15k and kept the same insurance carrier

We reached out to several insurance carriers for a quote on professional liability policies to give ZwillGen a feel for the market, and to create leverage. Aware of the competition and potential to lose business, the existing carrier offered to underwrite a policy that met their coverage improvement requests, reduced their premium by $15,000, and cut their cost per attorney rate by 17%.

At the end of the renewal, ZwillGen maintained continuity with their carrier while lowering their total costs and adding coverage enhancements.

ZwillGen now moves forward with the confidence that their additional lines of coverage — including General Liability, Business Owners Policy, Commercial Commercial Auto Insurance, Commercial Umbrella Insurance, and Employment Practices Liability Insurance — are all optimized at the best premium possible.
